Hannah Leah Villén part 1
I was eating lunch at noon at Restaurant Harran on Folkungagatan with Lorentz when Sarah called me and said that she was bleeding. We decided that should call Danderyd. They told her to come in right away since they thought the water had broken and she had no contractions. We decided that she should drive to Danderyd and I would take the subway and met her there. We went to the delivery ward but was sent upstars to be evaluated. They concluded that the water had broken and started to monitor Sarah for contractions which started around 3pm. Since this was happening on the 5th day of week 37 it ment 2 things.
1. Sarah was not alowed to go home and had to stay at the hospital unitl the delivery.
2. We had not prepared a bag to bring with us to the hospital
The first was a little hard to take since they told us that it could take up to 48 hours until it started. The second was fixed by me going home to pack and arrange for someone to take care of Jack. We are forever grateul to Lorentz and my Mom for going the extra mile to help us out.
Once I was back at the hospital Sarah had got settled in to a room where we were to wait for the contracions to get stronger. This process moved on steadily all night and by 8pm we were experiencing regular contracions at about 34-5 minutes apart. We were being monitored with a CTG machine and by the midwifes. By 11pm it was decided that we sould move down to the delivery ward and Sarah was rolled in a bed and a carried all our stuff.
By this time the contractions were getting more painful and harder to get through. As soon as we got in to the delivery room and had been introduced to our midwife and nurse sarah informed us all very firmly that she wanted an epidural. This was ordered. After we were installed in the room the checked Sarah and she was now 5cm open and was given antibiotica. This was for the baby since it was coming 3 weeks early. The antibiotica to some time to administer and after that they needed to give her fluid throuh an IV for the epidural. All the time the contractions kept coming more regular. Just before the doctor was due to come Sarah started to push in the contractions and was told not to do so. She was now check again and was now fully open (10cm). It had only taken 45 to go from 5 to 10 cm. We were now informed that we "would not get an epidural but a baby instead". That comment sounds more funny today than wat it did then. Sarah was now alowed to push in the contractions and after about 20-30minutes of active labour Hannah Leah wa born at 1:13 am. I was the first to say out loud "It's a girl" and after a couple of minutes when Hannah was restinh on Sarah I cut the embilicalcord. Since she was rather small 2065grams they started to feed her formula right away (within 20 minutes).
Now it began to set in that we were parents. She had been delivered, weighed, messaured and checked and everything looked normal. A feeling of accomplisment set in for both of us I think. It is truly a unique experience to be part of. We were served a light meal that was very good and then the first photos where taken. We also called the new grandparents in the US since it was still in the evening there. Everybody was excited with the news.

After a couple of hours we were transfered to a different room where we could rest and try to get some sleep which we managed to get.
